From The Lecturer's Desk
Let's Visit

By Marge Bernhardt, State Lecturer

  JANUARY 2007 --

Have you visited a convalescent or rest home lately? Hopefully your Grange has remembered these shut-ins over the holidays. If not, now is the time to start regular visitations.

Why not contact the Recreation Director of a nearby home and ask how the Grange can best help their residents. You might be surprised just how easy it could be. Many homes need people to write letters, help with bingo, or just plain come and visit with residents who have little or no family nearby. The Grange started its Should Auld Acquaintance Program back in the 1960's and our Granges across the State have made a name for themselves with all the work they have done. Help your Grange be recognized next State Session. Start a program today.

Now that the holiday season is past, I am starting work in earnest on this years Lecturers Conference. At present I am looking for volunteers - I need a couple of people with cars that are easy to get in and out of to shuttle people who can't do the walking from the dorms to the cafeteria and auditorium. You would still be able to attend the programs and workshops. Our program is on Our History. If you have any suggestions, please let me know as soon as possible.

Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we can all get out and do a lot of visiting this winter. Our attendance at other Granges helps them, plus we have a good time and make new friendships and renew old ones. Lecturers - please answer all invitations you receive whether you plan to attend or not. It is very hard for Granges to plan for refreshments if they have no idea how many people are coming.

See you around the State....
