Legislatively Speaking
Legislatively Speaking: Congress and Futures

By Noel Miller, CT State Grange Legislative Director

  OCTOBER 1, 2023 --

In September, the United Auto Workers went on strike at all three American automakers. Over the years, members have given up raises, cut pensions, scaled back health insurance to save a dying industry. Yet over the years, the top officials have received huge pay raises for the profitability of the companies by layoffs, plant closures, and subcontracting work to increase stock prices, which they use as the standard to calculate the company’s worth. The UAW is seeking fairness for the men and women who work hard to build quality products which boost the company profits. Fairness is the value that the Grange has fought for over the years, honest wages for honest work. Why should a family starve so the CEO of these companies make millions of dollars? Henry Ford started fair wages, 40 hour work weeks, vacations, and pensions because he knew that by taking care of the working man, the company will grow.

Recently, CNBC anchor Jim Cramer spoke about the pending strike, stating the unions would break the stock market and kill the economy. We have heard this song and dance before.  Let’s go back to 2008, when Mr. Cramer begged us to buy Goldman Sachs stock because this was a strong company and you could make lots of money. People bought stocks and the CEO’s cashed in their holdings and the stock crashed leaving the new stockholders without their shirts. In 2022 Silicon Valley Bank was in trouble due to the Feds raising interest rates. Again, Mr. Cramer was on the air promoting what a great investment this bank was. Again, people bought in to prop up this bank, the CEO withdrew his investments and the bank crashed and the new stockholders lost everything again. Mr. Cramer seems to have a pattern in his picks. Shame, shame for anyone taking his advice for you will lose your shirts.

Our Republican Congresspeople are going on a fishing trip. They failed and wasted thousands of dollars trying Hunter Biden, son of the President, for making money and doing dumb things in his life. They got nothing so they plan on going for the big fish. Impeachment investigations are underway for the “Biden Crime Family.” A fishing they will go. Hunter Biden’s hearings were nothing but Republicans flashing nude photos of a private citizen, Hunter Biden, with an escort and whistle blowers who all fell flat on their faces without any real evidence of guilt. It seems the Republicans preach how religious they are, yet at hearing after hearing they read to us sexual events of young men, and flash nude pictures of Hunter Biden in a public hearing where young people are forced to witness these photos. They are the law and order party that backs the blue. Yeah, they showed that on January 6 when Pres. Trump told his crowd of followers to march to the Capitol and take back our country. Hey GOP, clean up your house first, as the Bible says, “let he of no sin throw the first stone.’

We have to look at the members that are serving in the Senate and the House as to their age and health issues. Legacy is a valuable trait for any person, but there is a time when you must step down. It is better to be known as that great Legislator than that person who died in office. It is time for term limits for our Legislators. We have witnessed new members who are young rising stars and many more who are waiting to serve the people not the special interest groups.

This fall many things will be happening so we all must look and listen to the FACTS, trials will be all around and we must be witness to these events. This is the only way the truth can come forward. Witness for yourself and don’t rely on television stations that promote fear, hate and lies. It is time to face the truth and it will set you free.

The crystal ball is warmed up and I see a government shutdown by Christmas and go buy Bass Pro stocks because the Republicans will be fishing for a long, long time for a lot of nothing. You listening, Mr. Cramer? Thank you all for listening and reading my articles.
