July News from Ekonk Community Junior Grange No. 101

By Rebecca Gervais

  JULY 15, 2023 --

In late-April, we held a pancake breakfast. All of the profits went to Friends of Assisi, a local food pantry. With our suggestion, it was determined that the money will be distributed as vouchers for local farmer’s markets. This way, we are supporting agriculture and our community. We donated $305.00.

In May our literary program was STEM related. The Juniors decorated and designed wooden paddle boats, points were given for design and buoyancy. Their boats had to be able to ‘paddle’ a pre- determined distance, and weights were placed upon each boat to see whose boat could take on the most weight before sinking. We determined that weight distribution is very important.

In May we held a Pet Food Drive at Plainfield Agway. We distributed the donated dog food to the local pound and the cat food to Kitty Harbor. Monetary donations that were collected totaled: $184.38. We voted to donate $100.00 to Kitty Harbor, and $100.00 to All Paws on Deck, both local shelters.

In May, we also marched in the Sterling Memorial Day Parade.
