President's Message
President’s Message: See You At The Big E

By George Russell, CT State Grange President

  September 4, 2022 --

During the month of September there are at least two or three fairs each weekend along with the Big E in Springfield, MA. I’m getting a list of members who would be willing to work in the Connecticut Room in the New England Grange Building at the Big E. The Connecticut Room will be open two days during the Fair. The first day the room will be open is September 21st, Connecticut Day at the Big E. September 25th is Grange Day at the Big E. The Membership Committee has purchased note pads and pens to hand out to visitors who come up to the Connecticut Room on those two days. We will have brochures to hand out and hopefully get some new members. If you plan to attend either of these two days, please stop in and say hello.

Sharon and I attended the Family Festival on August 14 at Hillstown Grange in West Hartford. After a delicious Pancake Breakfast, we had a chance to look over the entries for the CWA contests followed by the State Lecturer’s Talent Contest and A-Number. With only one number entered in the talent contest, Lorraine Paul from Riverton Grange, performed two songs as part of her performance and she will be performing at the Celebration Banquet at State Session in October.

There were  two  Granges entered in the A Number. They were Hillstown Grange and North Stonington Community Grange. Hillstown placed first in the A Number. Congratulations to all the winners.

By the time you receive this issue, our State Grange Session will be about a month away. Hopefully you all will have your credentials. Our Membership Director has invited a guest speaker for our Thursday night session. Coach Jackie (Jacqueline Ross) is an author of “Manage Up” The Ultimate Guide to Managing Your Manager.

On Friday night’s Celebration Banquet, we will be holding a raffle to benefit the Connecticut State Grange Foundation. The Family Activities Committee will also be holding a raffle during the Session with the drawing to be held during the Banquet. Please support both of them by purchasing plenty of tickets and donating requested items. All State Officers are asked to donate one item for the Foundation Raffle that will help fund the Grange Improvement Grant program.

As I end this month’s article, make sure you are registered for this year’s Session and stay healthy and safe.
