Grange mourns the loss of Ruth Peck at age 100

  FEBRUARY 29, 2008 -- Ruth (Richard) (Gray) Peck, 100, died Feb. 27, 2008, at Rose Haven LTD in Litchfield. She was the widow of David Gray and former Master of the Connecticut State Grange Donald K. Peck.

Mrs. Peck was born to Zelim and Walburga (Akerman) Gray on July 21, 1907. She was the second oldest of 10 children, all deceased except one sister, Doris E. Richard of Torrington. She was a lifelong resident of Milton and Litchfield.

A very active life member of the Milton Congregational Church, Mrs. Peck was also active in the Ephriam Kirby Chapter of Eastern Star, the Litchfield Woman's Club and the Milton Woman's Club, and recently celebrated 75 years as a member of the Litchfield Grange. She knitted many caps for newborn babies at hospitals, crocheted lap robes for nursing home patients, and knit hats and mittens for the church's South African missions.

In addition to her two husbands, she was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters, Isabelle Richard, Lillian Sepples, Katherine Ur, and Robert, Walter, George, Kenneth and Oscar Richard. Besides her sister, she is survived by a daughter, Barbara Gill and her husband, J.B. Gill, of Canton, Ohio; three stepsons, Donald and wife, Loraine Peck, of Warren, N.J., Alden and wife, Jeanette Peck, of Prospect, Douglas and wife, Cille Peck, of Newburyport, Mass.; and many step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 1, at the Milton Congregational Church. Burial will be in Milton Cemetery. Friends may call today (February 28, 2008) at the Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, from 4 to 7 p.m.
