The Harrow is used to pulverize the soil as well as to cover the seed.
The Spade we use when we wish to penetrate deeper into the soil than we can with the Plow.

As Spring has arrived, we begin that arduous task of getting our gardens ready for the planting season. A neighbor’s backhoe, that is filled with compost, slowly made its way to where it dumped it at the end of the garden. It took us days to spread all of that compost. In the late-day sunshine, when we were done, you could actually feel the heat of the soil radiating. Our garden was ready for planting, and in went the rows of beans, cucumbers, beets, carrots, broccoli and lettuce.
The soil in our garden is like my soul, waiting for God. The compost is like all of the spiritual activities I fill my life with; prayers, Bible reading, spiritual conversations with friends, helping our neighbors. Compost seasons the soil as prayer seasons the soul. And that backhoe? I imagine it is the church, with its traditions and people who make it all come together.
