Around The Grange
Wherever You Are, Be There!

By Amanda Radke, Beef Daily Blog (11/10/10)

  NOVEMBER 14, 2010 --

Today, I’m joining you from Charlotte, NC, where I’m privileged to share my thoughts and experiences with members of the National Grange at their 144th National Convention. I’m excited to be here to converse with fellow farmers and ranchers, and although I’ve been invited to the podium to speak, I always look forward to learning new things from the agriculturalists I meet at these events.

It’s amazing to me how no two days of mine are ever the same. Of course, theBEEF Daily blog is a constant in my life, and it seems cattle are always at the center of my universe, but lately it feels like I’m always on the go. One day I’m at home preg-checking cows and sorting calves; the next day I’m flying to a new place to take part in exciting agriculture conferences! I feel so fortunate to be able to stay closely connected to my roots in agriculture, and I will admit that I would rather be out doing chores than sitting in my car or on a plane.

With that in mind, Tim Nichols, dean of South Dakota State University’s Honors College, always says, “Wherever you are, be there,” and I firmly believe that quote is something for us all to live by. Tonight, as I address the group of farmers and ranchers at the National Grange Convention, I would like to share a little piece of home and this blog with the audience, and I’m going to need your help. Please, send me your best words of advice for succeeding in this wonderful world of agriculture and include some of the most important lessons you have learned along the way. My goal is to inspire and motivate the group, and I know that the BEEF Daily readers are some of the best and brightest out there.

So, what advice do you have for the folks at the National Grange Convention? What words of wisdom can I share with the group? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below. Thanks for your participation!
