OCTOBER 19, 2010 -- Recent Ferndale High School (Ferndale, Washington) Students Karli Zwade and Denny Franzmann placed in Washington State Grange Contests and both are on their way to the Grange National Convention in North Carolina.
As the incoming FFA Washington State Secretary, Karli Zwade has a busy year ahead of her. She’s the winner of both the Washington State Grange and the Western Regional Public Speaking Contests, and will have plenty of chances to use those skills as she travels the state, speaking on behalf of the FFA. Earlier this year, Karli placed eighth at the state-wide FFA speaking contest. A member of Haynie Grange, Karli, 17, is an early graduate of Ferndale High, to allow her to fulfill her year’s work with FFA. Karli’s career plans include studying pediatric dentistry at the UW.
Winner of the Washington State Grange Talent Show, Denny Franzmann is a self-taught guitarist who began playing a mere four years ago. He even composed the song he played at the show. Denny, 18, is a member of the Lummi Island Grange and enjoys playing music with his friends when he’s not busy working or going to school. He’s will begin his general studies at Western Washington University this fall, with hopes to be accepted into the music program. Denny especially thanks Grange member Bud Jewell for his encouragement.
To help fund their trip to nationals, the Whatcom Pomona Grange (representing the seven county granges) is sponsoring a raffle where you can win cash. Tickets are $1 each and may be purchased via mail by sending a check payable to Pomona Grange #6, along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Scott Hackett, 12 Sandalwood Ct., Bellingham, WA 98229. Cash donations are also welcome mailed to the same address. |
