| OCTOBER 26, 2010 -- Grange members from all across America will attend the 144th National Grange Convention, November 9 – 13, which is being held at the Hilton Charlotte University Place Hotel in Charlotte, NC. This year’s Annual Session is hosted by the Eastern Region States, representing New Jersey to Florida.
National Grange Master/President Edward Luttrell (Sandy, OR.) will deliver his Master’s Address on Tuesday, November 9 at 2:30 p.m. and it is open to the public. He will focus on issues impacting rural America as well as the country as a whole. He asks, “What Can One Person Do?” He states, “Many times over the past 143 years, our organization has rallied the forces of our communities to change our nation. Americans can make a difference; it is just by working together through organizations like the Grange to do so.”
The week-long Convention is filled with a variety of events and activities to highlight this year’s successes. They include legislative policy debate, interactive workshops, guest speakers, celebration banquets, contests and recognitions, and tours of the Queen City. Educational and speaker events are open to the public, but require on-site registration.
As part of their annual community outreach program in the hosting community, Grange members will decorate Christmas trees. Upon the conclusion of the Convention, the decorated Christmas trees will be donated to local schools, hospitals, and/or shelters.
Established in 1867, the National Grange is the oldest agriculture and rural community service organization and meets annually to confer the Seventh Degree, the highest Degree of the Order; to develop its legislative policy for the coming year, and to recognize the talents of its members. There are over 200,000 members in 2,700 communities in 40 states throughout the United States. |
