From The Chaplain's Desk
October 2010 Chaplain's Corner

By Amy Whitcomb, State Chaplain

  OCTOBER 2, 2010 --

We all begin a new Grange year.  During this month we will shape our journey for the next year.  Come to the State Grange session and help form the policies for the next year.  We do not need a miracle to make this organization work, we need you.

Do you believe in miracles?  One need not earn favors from God to receive divine blessings, in reality, we all received miracles.  Many people think of a miracle as being a divine intervention or incident that is contrary to or results in the suspension of the laws of nature.

Miracles seem significant because some aspect of the natural realm has been changed.  Responses to miracles include a state of wonder and amazement, but miracles may also leave feelings of mystery, fear, doubt and inadequacy.  People often believe that miracles are the result of some earned favor from God and therefore respond in various ways.

If miracles come from God, why don’t get one?  Don’t I deserve one?  What’s wrong with me?

If I please God and work harder maybe I will deserve a miracle.

“That person surely doesn’t deserve a miracle.”

Have you had critical judgmental thoughts about miracles?  What impact does that have on your perception of God?  Would a God that is love arbitrarily dole out miracles or grant them to a special few based on some kind of merit?

In reality we all have experienced miracles, however these miracles are not in keeping with the commonly understood definition of miracle.

Properly understood, miracles are tools that point us to our true Divinity.
