AUGUST 21, 2009 -- Carolyn "Carnie" (Ives) Lincoln died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at New Milford Hospital, after a long illness.
Born Dec. 24, 1932, Carnie was the daughter of the late Sherman K. and Lida (Skilton) Ives. She attended Litchfield High School and the University of Connecticut, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in business administration.
She was employed and retired from The Connecticut General Life Insurance Co. She continued to work with other insurance companies, as well as the fraternity of Pi Lambda Phi in Brookfield.
She was a past president of the American Society of Training and Development, during which time she co-authored a book on human resources and development with Neal Chalofsky. When Ella Grasso was governor of Connecticut, she appointed Carnie to the Board of Directors of the Connecticut State Police Academy, where she served until John Rowland became governor.
Carnie was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Morris Cemetery Association, as well as Morris Grange, Litchfield Grange, Mountain County Pomona Grange, the Connecticut State Grange and the Skilton Reunion Association. She was an Alpha C Delta, and an Eastern Star member.
She is survived by her beloved husband Walter, of New Preston, her sister Virginia Stephens of Storrs and her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Alden and Bradford Ives, and her sister Esther Coulombe.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Mount Tom State Park at 1 p.m., followed by a potluck luncheon at the Litchfield Grange. In case of rain, the service will be held at the Litchfield Grange.
