Two Connecticut Farm Bureaus to offer Scholarships

The New London County Farm Bureau and the Tolland County Farm Bureau are currently offering agriculturally-based scholarships to students in their respective areas.

 

New London County Farm Bureau:

This yearly scholarship of $500, established in 1985 by the New London County Farm and Home Bureau, Inc., is presented to encourage a high school graduating senior or a presently enrolled student in a higher education plan of study to continue his/her education at an accredited college. The applicants will be assessed based on scholastic ability, leadership, civic involvement, extra - curricular activities and financial need.

Applicants must be a son and/or daughter of a New London County Farm Bureau Family , and provide an official high school / college transcript at date of application or grade point average to date if presently enrolled in college. Two letters of recommendation must accompany the application, plus a letter of support from a school administrator. The application must include a letter from the applicant stating their career goals, and why the candidate is deserving of the scholarship. An interview may be required.

To receive an application, contact New London County Farm Bureau office at 160 Oliver Rd., Lebanon, CT 06249. Applications are due by June 30, and winners will be notified in the Fall of 2010 with the check awarded in the second semester of the 2010-2011 academic year.

 

Tolland County Farm Bureau:

The 2010 Franklyn and Diurna Kibbe Memorial Award for $500 is offered by Tolland County Farm Bureau to recognize young people going to college to study Agriculture at UCONN's two- or four-year programs. Preference will be given to entering freshmen who plan to major in food crop production or animal science. Applicants must be a resident of Tolland County, have a demonstrated interest and be active in agriculture, and demonstrate leadership potential. Application deadline is June 1.
