From The Chaplain's Desk
March 2010 Chaplain's Corner

By Amy Whitcomb, State Chaplain

  MARCH 2010 --

In the days leading from the season of Epiphany to the season of Lent, we walk with Jesus in His ministry. We also shine God's light in dark and difficult situations, bringing God's hope and grace to places of despair and grief.

During this season we are encouraged to take the time to discern our gown gifts for ministry and to have the courage to put those gifts into practice. According to the Gospel of Luke, Jesus inaugurated his own ministry by pointing to Isaiah's words of justice and liberation in Chapter 61. He declared that God's desire for justice, mercy and grace were not for some future realm but were now present in Jesus' work.

We take Jesus as our model for our work as individuals. I give thanks for your gifts of ministry and your generosity in sharing them with each other and the world.

With the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday, we are called to a season of reflection and introspection. It is a time of reconnecting with God in new ways and sharing God in new ways with others. It is an opportunity for healing... an opportunity for growth, and an opportunity for new depth of faith as we approach Easter and the season of new life.

Find your opportunity in many ways to share your gifts of ministry. Distribute your gifts in the world. Allow yourself to grow and expand during this season of new life.
