Around The Grange
Sep News from Simsbury Grange No. 197

By Susan Masino

  SEPTEMBER 10, 2023 --

Our agricultural fair was held on June 10th from 10:00-3:00 and was a huge success! We included informational displays from local farms and non-profits, invited town selectmen/business owners to judge contests and had many fair participants jiving to the Out The Boxx dance band.

Thanks to grange members who helped bake, set up, contact townspeople, serve, prepare spreadsheets, etc. After the fair, President Barbara Friedland hosted dinner to debrief and plan for next year’s fair on Saturday, June 8th, 2024.

We are partnering with our local library to register/co-host events held at the grange. These activities include a Storytime and seed activity for preschoolers, a five part film series on Beaver Pond Wildlife, and an out-of-town jazz quintet. Our one hour social event/hors d’oeuvres before events is especially popular.

July 11th - We discussed building maintenance/renovation, ongoing rentals, upcoming events, and possible new events for the fall. Two new members attended.

August 10th - Discussions centered around: the Beaver Pond Wildlife films on Sept 14th and November 9th, two grants received from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving and Patronicity, grant writing opportunities and new programming ideas for the fall.
