Our July 15th meeting was very productive and fun to boot. Prior to the meeting, Dawn and Rode Anstett provided fresh corn from a local farm for our social time from 6:45 – 7:30 PM. Gatekeeper Denny Jasmine was elected to a 3-year term on the Executive Committee starting in September for the position currently held by Phil Prelli. President Dave Roberts reported on his recent trip to Washington, D.C., to attend the Eastern Region Leadership Conference. Lorraine Paul, also known as Raine Sings, was selected as our Riverton Grange 2022 Talent Competition winner. We selected our Community Citizen of the Year Awardee and will present this recognition to the recipient at 12 noon at the Riverton Grange Hall on Saturday, August 20th, during the Riverton Grange Fair. As always, our fair is open to all, our hall is handicapped accessible, and there is no cost to attend. Speaking of our upcoming Riverton Grange Fair 2022, the programs are printed and ready for distribution, we will have a new educational program on composting thanks to a grant from CT State Grange, we will hold a teacup auction, have refreshments, provide agricultural/baked/canned goods/photography items submitted by the public to view, and a chance to see each other in a casual setting. Following the July 15th normal meeting, Acting Family Activities Chair Judy Doyle held a fun competition titled: “How to make an award-winning dessert”! Attendees were divided into three teams and each team had five minutes to individually plan their own dessert, five minutes to make their own dessert from all the ingredients provided, and five minutes to sample each team member’s dessert and select one winner from each of the three teams to be judged by Chris Wright. Team #2, composed of Junior Natalee Roberts, Laura Marek, Sue Belle-Isle and Dave Roberts, were the Grand Prize winners of the evening. Yes, you will never hear the end of our outstanding win!!!! But a fun time was had by all and Judy Doyle received HARDY  CONGRATULATIONS for an outstanding activity for our members to participate in and have fun at the same time.

Riverton Grange #169 hosted their 14th monthly Veterans Salute on July 3rd when the American flag was retired in honor of the June Veteran of the Month, U.S. Navy Cold War Veteran Danamarie Towers, and a new American flag was raised in honor of Vietnam War Veteran and Riverton American Legion Post #159 Chaplain David McGee. The retired flag was presented to Veteran Towers on behalf of the President of the United States and a grateful nation for her service. Dave Roberts presented a shadow box, carrying bag, and framed certificate signed by National Grange President Betsy Huber. This program has entered its second year and has secured the same sponsor as the first year and Royal Coachman Tavern expanded their financial commitment for Year #2 of this Grange initiative.
