Around The Grange
Nov 2021 News from Killingly Grange No. 112

By Penny Bennett

  November 8, 2021 --

In September, the Killingly Grange held  its  Annual  Fair and Pat’s Roast Pork Dinner. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves at both of these events. Unfortunately, we had to postpone our Big Pumpkin Cabaret and Open Market due to circumstances which were totally beyond our control. But please rest assured that this event will indeed, take place next October during The Last Green Valley’s Walktober initiative! Next year will mark the seventh year that we will have participated in the annual Walktober series of walks, hikes, paddles and events that people have come to love and look forward to year after year.

On Veterans Day (Thursday Nov. 11th) we will hold a Soup Dinner, where all Veterans eat for free! The menu includes beef stew, corn chowder and sausage and lentil soup. Then, on  Sat.,  November 27, we will welcome back Nick Anderson and Shady Creek. It’s our loss that we missed an entire season of his renowned bluegrass music due to COVID-19. A lot of people know that our Grange and his band constitute the longest running live traditional bluegrass music venue in eastern Connecticut.  So  far, his band has been performing at our hall for a good twenty years or so. Let’s hope for another twenty years! Also, on the 27th, a second band, The Bear Minimum, led by Dave “Tex” Orlomoski, originally from Canterbury, will perform after a 20–30-minute break. The doors open at 6:00 pm and the concert starts at 7:00 pm. Sandwiches and other refreshments will be available throughout the night. Tickets for the concert are still only $12.00 at the door.

Then, on a cool crisp Saturday night in December (date yet to be announced), we plan on hosting our Open House and Christmas Party, at which time will have a potluck dinner, a Yankee Gift Swap-and Carol sing! We may also have the opportunity to watch Frank Capra’s classic Christmas movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” which, we’re sure will bring joy to all our hearts.

For more information, or if you have any questions, please call John or Penny at 860-412-9811. Sometimes the weather is bad, or plans change due to unforeseen circumstances, so please call ahead to confirm the date and time of any event that you are interested in attending. Thanks again for your interest in making our Grange a vibrant part of our community.
