Our summer activities culminated with our 87th Agricultural Fair on August 25th. All the planets were in alignment with stunning weather of sunshine and low humidity, beautiful exhibits of horticulture and culinary arts and more exhibits than have been submitted in years. Plus, an enthusiastic crowd all day long of kids and adults to see the exhibits, the concessionaires, hear the live music entertainment and to have wonderful fair-food prepared with loads of veggies provided by several local farms. Truly Farm-to-Fork! This year’s fair was the first in quite some time where all aspects of the event were overseen by Grange members!1 Thank you to all. The Fair Committee did a great job planning and coordinating the day’s activities: Michele Clark, Dearta Fusaro, Pat Kennedy, John Kriz, Bil Mikulewicz, Don Offinger and Doug Shepherd. A new feature to this year’s fair was “Tent Talks” where a featured expert talked to an interesting subject. We had speakers from the Association of Fairs Baking Contests, the American Chestnut Society, the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, Ambler Farm and SCORE.

Our thanks and appreciation to the Clark children for their help all day at the fair: Aaron, Evan and Anna. Incidentally, Aaron had his Boy Scout troop 20 come and help out with running Kids’ Games. Way to go Aaron!!

With our installation of officers, we welcome our new president Dearta Fusaro and look forward to a great year ahead!

We are getting geared up for our regular program year and rentals. As the summer wanes, the last crops of the season are beginning to mature: the butternut and delicate squash. Don Offinger reported that his farm’s sweet corn received great raves from his customers of its super sweet taste. Don also noted that great growing conditions for onions have derived high yields (and size) of both yellow and red onions and similarly for zinnias for cut flowers.
