October 15, 2017 -- We welcomed our guest Lois Evankow, Lecturer, Lyme Grange at our September meeting, and as always we thank Lois for her contributions to our Grange.
Our annual picnic was held at Polly Leonard’s farm. We were serenaded by several goats that were watching the proceedings and letting us know they were there for any leftovers. The good food and conversation were enjoyed by all.
We continue with our community service to local rehab facilities and food banks and kudos to Polly Leonard who donated several hundred pounds of vegetables to local food pantries and local lunch programs. These donations are much appreciated. We are also collecting donations for animal shelters in our area and recently Cathy Russi delivered several needed items to the Humane Society shelter in Waterford. Our Grange also applied for and received a $150.00 grant from Ct State Grange and we were able to match that amount for a local educational project for our elementary school. We coordinated with CT Agricultural Education Foundation and the Farm Bureau to supply the school library with a beautiful barn themed book case and cash donations enabled us to supply agricultural themed children books for the case. The dedication was done at an assembly with 200 second graders, teachers, representatives from the Farm Bureau, Colchester Agricultural Commission, and Colchester Grangers. The book case was dedicated in memory of John Mohrlein, a longtime local farmer in Colchester.
Anyone interested in travel please remember to contact Cathy Russi, CWA representative for exciting travel opportunities.
Fall harvest is upon us. Hope all are enjoying the beautiful weather and the changing of the seasons. |
