January 9, 2017 -- Simsbury Grange has recently welcomed 3 new members- Katie, Lela and James. What makes them special is their youthful exuberance; their concern for sustainable agriculture, the environment, and the community; and their interest in helping the grange support its mission. These special members are high school students who are the future of the grange. Please help us welcome them.
Katie is currently a student at Simsbury High School. Originally from Denver, she is the co-founder of the Earth’s Advocates organization at the high school, and strives to attain a world for which health and happiness is realized for all people and creatures on this planet. She also is a very dedicated musician, and has won multiple awards, including the Simsbury Friends for Music award, and has also been inducted into the prestigious Tri-M Music Society. Katie hopes that, through the grange, her dedication to the arts and sciences can be expressed in a positive and community-building way. She was newly elected to the role of Gate Keeper.
Lela is happy to be a brand new member of the Simsbury Grange, and to serve as Lady Assistant Steward. She is a junior at Suffield High School, and an active member of its Future Farmers of America chapter. In addition, she has been working at George Hall Farm in Simsbury, CT for two seasons alongside James, among others.
James is a 16 year old Junior at the Master’s School in West Simsbury. He is extremely excited to be a new member of the Simsbury Grange, serving as an Assistant Steward. Along with playing varsity soccer and varsity baseball, he also has worked at George Hall Farm for four years with new grange member, Lela. |
