SEPTEMBER 2016 -- Colchester Grange #78 made a donation of tools to the Bacon Academy Garden Program (Academy Acers). The students will be able to utilize the 25 tools to help with the garden program they have started. The group has sustainability on their minds. Students are encouraging families to grow their own food which is a huge step forward leading to a sustainable lifestyle. The group had a discussion regarding organic, chemical-free methods and how inherently more sustainable for human health, wildlife, the soil and the water supply than non-organic techniques.
The two groups held conversations regarding how reusing and recycling can be adopted in the grading process. Polly Leonard offered the history of farming and how the farmers have supplies of fresh produce to people for years.
The two groups hope to continue their connection being committed to an intergenerational approach to a sustainable lifestyle. |
