Wilton Legislators Host Successful Town Hall Meeting at Cannon Grange

By Robert Berczuk, Wilton Daily Voice (6/25/15)

  JUNE 29, 2015 --

In order to keep constituents up-to-date on the latest at the State Capitol, State Reps. Gail Lavielle (R-143) and Tom O’Dea (R-125), along with State Sen. Toni Boucher (R-26), hosted a town hall-style meeting June 18 at the Cannon Grange Hall in Wilton with about 35 people in attendance, according to a press release.

The Wilton lawmakers discussed the current state budget and the major acts passed in the 2015 session, as well as answered questions from attendees about issues concerning the state and community, according to a press release.

“This budget has clearly struck a chord of fiscal horror with people and businesses throughout our state,” Lavielle said in a press release. “In fact, the public outcry has been so intense that this has become a story in the national media. The tax increases will have an immediate negative impact on businesses of all sizes, hospitals, and every resident of the state, regardless of their economic circumstances. If even one of our largest businesses leaves, the repercussions for Connecticut’s economy will be devastating."

“The stakes for the families in our communities and our state couldn’t be higher,” O’Dea said in a press release. “The tax hikes that are included in the recently-passed budget will have an impact on everyone, and this forum gave us an opportunity to share that information with residents, as well as other critical details about the prior legislative session.”

Constituents were pleased to have the opportunity to speak frankly with their legislators, who in turn were very appreciative of the feedback and thanked the group for sharing their thoughts, according to a press release.

Anyone who was unable to attend the event but would like to speak with Lavielle and O’Dea can reach them by calling 800-842-1423. Boucher can be reached at 800-842-1421.
