Around The Grange
Winchester Grange April Musings

By Todd Gelineau, Winchester Grange President

  APRIL 12, 2015 --

This report is being written on the evening of our annual Cabin Fever Craft and Bake Sale.  The hall was packed with vendors eager to sell their wares.  Unfortunately at 8 A.M. the snow started flying and didn’t stop until this evening.  We had a good number of customers, just not the normal attendance we can usually expect.  Chalk it up to the lingering effects of the worst winter in recent memory.

The day before, March 27, Sue Addison, Todd Gelineau and Sara Bement (from Winchester Grange) and Phil and Maureen Prelli (from Riverton Grange) visited Mary Hinsdale School in Winsted to present Dictionaries as part of the Words for Thirds Program.  Over 75 students in three third grade classes received the deluxe version of the dictionary and the kids were extremely appreciative.  We thank Phil and Maureen for coordinating the program for us and we look forward to participating again next year.

With the exception of July, Winchester Grange has at least one event scheduled each month from now until the beginning of November.  We love doing these events even though we have to hold these events to keep the Grange running and moving forward.

Our next event will be our Spring Super Prize Party to be held on Friday, Apr. 17.  What’s a Super Prize Party?  It’s a super-sized teacup auction with the chance to win “Super” prizes as well.  For one dollar you receive a card that contains 27 chances to win a prize!  Stretch your dollar and have a great time at Winchester Grange.  Doors open at 6:00 and the drawing of prizes begins at 7:00 P.M.

Our members have been working hard to bring in new members this spring with at least 3 on the list for the first and second degrees on Apr. 14.  There may be one or two others joining us as well.  We’re so looking forward to a possible net gain this year!  The third and fourth degrees will be conferred on Apr. 28 preceded by a potluck Harvest Supper beginning at 6 P.M.  We’d love to have you come and visit with us and have a great meal.

Apr. 14:  1st & 2nd Degrees

Apr. 17:  Super Prize Party, Doors Open at 6:00 P.M.

Apr. 28:  3rd & 4th Degrees
