Killingly Grange October News Update

By Glenna Bruno

  OCTOBER 4, 2014 --

As of this writing, dates and program are not available.  Our annual Grange Fair is in progress and with a sigh of relief, will be over by the time this news goes to press.

A new prospective member has been scraping old paint from the building windows getting them ready for putty and paint.  His plans are to paint the front and road side of the building which needs it badly.  That will be a great improvement.

The flower and veggie gardens planted earlier didn’t do as well as we expected but the sunflowers are starting to bloom.  Also a nice pot of pepper plants have 6+ peppers and the tomato plant has small plumb tomatoes and a pot of regular tomatoes has two good sized tomatoes getting red.  We will be entering the Tomato Festival on Sept. 13 and plan another tomato head contest.  Time of the festival is 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. at Davis Park in downtown Killingly.

Apple Festival is next in Oct. on the 11th from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. at Killingly Grange #112.  Lots of activities.  The “potato eye” I planted in a pot yielded two egg sized potatoes and several smaller ones.  We won ribbons at both Brooklyn and Woodstock Fairs for our exhibits.

Oct. 6:  Meeting

Oct. 11:  Apple Festival, 9 A.M. to 3 P.M.
