APRIL 1, 2014 -- At our Monday, March 10 meeting Colchester Grange members were pleased to install two new members. Welcome Heidi and John Brown.
We also welcomed our frequent visitors, Ted Beebe, Master of Norwich Grange, and Lois Evankow, Flora of East Central Pomona, and Lecturer of Lyme Grange. We can always count on an excellent program from Lois when she fills in for our programs. We thank Ted and Lois for their ongoing contributions to our Grange.
Letters of appreciation were received from the American Legion Veterans in Jewett City for the Valentine’s Gift Cards and sweet treats that were given to the residents. An Easter basket project is also being planned.
A rocky road bar bake-off contest was held with four delicious entries. Congratulations to Polly Leonard for submitting the winning bars.
Our agricultural contributor Chris Bourke gave us information regarding the proposed use of a farm to table school food service project by the Ledge Light Health District. The proposed program would be offered in all New London County school districts. We were pleased to hear that Colchester is being considered as a potential central processing area for this new program. The program is to be administered by Farm Fresh. The potential rise in both beef and produce costs due to the drought in California was also discussed. Thank you, Chris for all your hard work for the Grange and agricultural community in our area.
We are continuing our community service projects at both Harrington Court and Apple Rehabilitation facilities and have activities planned for both locations later in March.
Thank you to everyone for your commitment to these projects.
Please don’t forget to check with our CWA representative, Cathy Russi for information on upcoming trips to the Cape, August 10-11 this summer, and a tour of Scotland and Ireland planned for April 8-19, 2015.
Let’s hope spring comes soon! |
