Around The Grange
Norfield Grange news for July

By Ruth L. Hickcox

  JULY 5, 2013 --

At our May 14 meeting we welcomed Geno Piacentini and Karen Macdonald for our annual inspection.  Good news:  we’re still very much in business.  Almost a month later we presented Norfield’s 3rd Annual Community Tag Sale, June 7-9, hosted by Vivian Simons and Betsy Pollack.  At this writing it’s four days away, so we will report on its success next month.  it’s sure to be another winner.

The annual Summer Barbecue is scheduled for August 13, and your ticket will be a side dish, dessert or appetizer.  Please RSVP to norfieldgrange@gmail.com or call 203-226-8233.  And plan to have a happy, relaxed evening with your favorite Norfield friends.

Before you do another thing, go to your calendar and put a big circle around September 8.  that’s the date of our 45th Annual Norfield Agricultural Fair and Market.  Grand Prize for all exhibits will be a monetary $500!  There will be three new contests:  “Best Tomato,” “Best Homemade Hooch,” and “Best Cupcake” in Connecticut.  There will be pony rides, a petting zoo, kids’ games and face painting,  a snack bar, tag sale, farmers’ market, craft vendor demonstrations, and a raffle.  For more information and entry blanks visit our website:  www.norfieldgrange.com or “friend” our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/norfield.grange.

Finally, we mourn the loss of Phoebe Holly, who died on June 1.  She and Bud were faithful attendants at our meetings in years past, and they were a reminder of the times when the Grange was the highlight of the social calendar.  Goodbye, Phoebe.
