Hillstown Grange News for May

By Frank Forrest

  MAY 1, 2013 --

Hoping your May flowers will open this year if they don’t get snowed on with the way the weather has been going this year.

We have started our seeds and announced our veggie/flower fair competition plants:  the largest “Mr. Strippy Tomato” and the longest flower spike from a larkspur flower.  Call or email us for seeds or more information.  Seeds donated by “New England Seed Company”, Hartford, CT.

We are trying to raise funds for a new roof before our antique one starts to leak and to bring our hall up to ADA standards.  It is frustrating to not fit in any special group with available funding to maintain our Grange halls.  We have tried farm trusts, historical groups, etc. and they all respond back that we don’t fit their standards for grants.  If any Community Grange has found a funding source please spread the word to us poor Granges.

One of our fundraising ideas is a special bead that fits Pandora, Biagi, and other bracelets and key chains. They are Grange Blue and Gold with the words GRANGE-CONNECTICUT engraved in silver.  We have been selling this for $26 a bead and $30 with a keychain.

Contact Michelle at 860-568-2415 for more information.
