Cannon Grange to host Silent Movie Night March 16th
  FEBRUARY 27, 2013 --

Film enthusiasts of all ages are invited to attend a night of classic silent movies with live piano accompaniment hosted by Cannon Grange on Saturday, March 16 at 7:30 PM.

Enjoy the 1931 Charlie Chaplin classic comedy "In City Lights." Noted silent film historian and pianist John Mucci of Wilton will play an original live score accompaniment on the Grange’s early 1900-vintage piano.

"In City Lights" is Chaplin's last silent film, and his personal favorite. One of the funniest films ever made, in a story that's both tender and touching. The story follows the misadventures of Chaplin's Tramp, who falls in love with a blind flower girl. She thinks he is a rich benefactor; and Charlie does everything he can to keep her believing that, raising money for an operation that will restore her sight.

Filled with sight-gags and brilliant comic situations, "In City Lights" features Virginia Cherrill as the blind flower girl and Harry Myers as the millionaire friend. The Tramp's efforts to sacrifice himself for the lady he loves is truly what makes this classic film far beyond any comedy in the silent era, and has been called one of the best films of all time for its timeless blend of romance, comedy, and pathos.

Plan to arrive early for best seating, and spend the entire evening laughing at the antics and stunts of these actors. The films are perfect entertainment for children and adults alike.

Mucci, a member of Cannon Grange, has been accompanying silent films since 1972, and has been acclaimed as "bringing the silents back to life" and providing "hair-raising experiences" during the many chase scenes to delighted audiences.

Admission is $8.00 per person, which includes refreshments.  Cannon Grange Hall is located at 25 Cannon Road in Wilton, with free parking available at the Grange Hall, Cannondale Village and at the Cannondale Railroad Station.

For more information, please call Cannon Grange at 203-762-1900 or John Mucci at 203-722-6751 or via the web at www.CannonGrange.org.
