Redding Grangers remember 70-yr. member John Burritt

John L. Burritt, a lifelong Redding resident, died Oct. 19 at Masonicare in Newtown, Conn., surrounded by his family. He was 91. 

He was born Feb. 24, 1921, in Weston. He graduated from Danbury High School and served three years in the Navy on the USS Boston during World War II. He owned and operated Burritt's Dairy in Redding for more than 50 years. He was also a volunteer firefighter and a member of the Grange for 70 years. 

Burritt is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jean Burritt; four children, John (Ann) Burritt, of Fairfield, Wade (Jo) Burritt, of Newburyport, Mass., Douglas (Shawn Shin) Burritt, of Elliot, Maine, and Phyllis (Bob) Le Blanc, of Bradford, Mass.; a sister, Doris Nobes; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Emerson Burritt and Lloyd Burritt.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bouton Funeral Home in Georgetown. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Congregational Church in Redding. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
