Around The Grange
Portland Ag Fair to be held October 12-14

By Joyce Murphy, Secretary, Portland Agricultural Fair (Press Release 7-16-12)

  JULY 29, 2012 --

ThePortland Agricultural Fair is going to happen again this year. Mother Nature tried to get the better of us, but we are back! It will be held on Oct. 12, 13 and 14 at the Exchange Club grounds on Rt 17A. But, because of last year's fiasco, we are in need of help. Listed below are different areas that could use some new input:

Committee Members - We have committee meetings the first Wednesday of every month at Hemlock Grange Hall at 7 p.m. Come and join the planning/organizing of the fair. You can also join and have voting rights - for a $30 membership fee.

Volunteers at the fair - People are always needed at fair time. We need ticket sellers, parking people, bus assistants. In general, there's always a job to be done if someone wants to volunteer to help us. And remember students, service hours are needed and this is a good way to earn them

Vendors - always welcome. We alays need some new opportunities for our fairgoers to shop.

Talent Show - we will be having our very own 'Portland Idol' talent show for the kids. So dust off your talents and be prepared to wow the judges.

Sponsor an activity - we are always looking for new, fun ideas for the fair. If you are interested in running some contests (Bubble Gum Blowing, Pie Eating, Baby Contest, etc), we are always looking for the ideas and for the people to organize and run them.

After a while, the original members get tired and out of ideas, some fresh minds will help.  If any of this appeals to you, either send an email to JMURPHY506480@yahoo.com or call Joyce at 860-342-0188.

Let's make this year's fair the best ever!
