Granby Grange News for April

By Charlie Smith

  APRIL 7, 2012 --

Here it is the first week in April of 2012 and Granby Grange #5 continues onward, ever onward.  We have been sponsoring community dances since July 2011 and the attendance has been erratic.   The 23 March dance, with Ralph Sweet as caller was the most attended so far in 2012, but we had 2 sets on the floor where we had room for 8.  Next dance is scheduled for 27 APR 2012 with a yet to be determined caller.

Our last Tag Sale in FEB/MAR raised several hundred dollars and cleared out a fair percentage of the old items left from prior tag sales, and all remaining items have been donated to the Salvation Army, Bug Brothers & Sisters, and Disabled American Veterans organizations.

Plans are progressing toward our annual Fall Fair with accompanying chicken barbecue dinner, future community dances, and other fund raising events to benefit our kitchen upgrade project plans.  An arts and crafts fair, and a tag sale with all new items are among the activities we are looking into. Visit our website to keep up to date

Our next meeting is Friday, 13 APR 2012 and will start an hour and a half early at 6:00 PM with a dinner in the basement dining area before convening the regular meeting in the upstairs assembly hall at 7:30 PM.  Dinner will be catered by RoseAnna & Charle Smith (Overseer and Lecturer, respectively).

We have been diligently working on the transition of Treasurer duties and the several banking and investment accounts from Frances Brockett to Carol Innes, and necessary completion of overdue annual reports.  We also welcomed and inducted a new member at our March meeting.

We have yet to meet with our new Pomona since dissolution of the Farmington Valley Pomona transferred Granby Grange #5 to the East Central Pomona.  As of our March meeting, we had not been informed of the divers degree passwords for this year, which could present problems when we do get to go to the next East Central Pomona gathering in Glastonbury.
