Grangers remember Lucy Hovey

Lucy Ida Hovey, 80, died on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011 at Hartford Hospital.

Born in Montpelier, Vermont on August 13, 1931, daughter of the late Walter and Jesse (Sayers) Sears, she lived in Northfield, Vt. until 1964 when she moved to Connecticut. 

Lucy was a member of the Morris Fire Department Ladies Aux., Litchfield and Hope Granges, and later the Bethlehem Grange. She had also been a member of the Moose Club in Barre, Vt. Ms. Hovey was an avid bingo player, active in the Morris (Eldridge) Senior Center, enjoying trips to Thimble IslandS. She loved all animals, especially her dog, Diamond. She also enjoyed traveling to North Carolina to visit her grandson in the Marines.

She and her husband, Roger, who survives her were together for 63 years; also surviving are three sons, Michael Hovey of Morris, Robert Hovey of Torrington and Wendell Hovey of Redding;CT; three daughters, Lauri McBurney of Morris, June Reichert of Torrington and Nancy Hovey of Waterbury; and a son Walter who is deceased her brother Kenneth Sears and his wife Susan of Northfield, VT; two sisters, Helen Thompson of Berlin, Vt and Nada Kelley and her husband Robert of Montpelier, VT; six grandchildren, Michael Reichert, Justin Hovey, LCPL Douglas Jacquemin, Kyle Hovey, Dylan Hovey and Zachary Hovey; and two great grandchildren, Kadin Hovey and Sophie Hovey. 

A Memorial gathering will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011 at Morris Fire Department, 15 South Street, Morris.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Morris Volunteer Frie Department Ladies Aux.
