Norfield Grange holds kickoff dinner for Winter Farmers Market

An early Thanksgiving dinner featuring turkey and farm-fresh roasted vegetables was on the menu at the Norfield Grange on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

The dinner was a combination of the Grange’s regularly scheduled monthly meeting and a kickoff for the Winter Farmers Market, which started last week.

Members of the Grange and their families enjoyed a pre-Thanksgiving dinner that featured roasted root vegetables, side dishes, and fresh pies made with produce provided by Lexi Gazy of Gazy Brothers Farm in Oxford, one of the vendors at the market.

Approximately 70 people were in attendance, including Kevin Parker and his family, the Lamb family, and the Poirier family. Dan and Britta Lerner and their two sons enjoyed a hot meal before the local election results were announced at the polls. Ms. Lerner was a candidate for the Planning and Zoning Commission in an uncontested race.

There was also a public open house at the dinner, and two new members signed on with the Grange, said dinner organizer Lyn Kimberly.

The winter farmers market is being held at the Grange at 12 Goodhill Road on Saturdays from 10 to 2.

Products available at the market include Connecticut-grown produce, farm-raised beef, pork, eggs, Maine seafood, goat’s milk products, jams, jellies, maple syrup, honey, hot sauce, and fresh baked goods.

In the crafter’s corner there are crafts by local artists such as jewelry, pottery, antiques, raw wool, and boxwood wreaths.

The market is a great resource for Westonites to find special gifts and food for the holiday season, Ms. Kimberly said. She said it is also a time when people in the community may gather to talk with each other and knowledgeable vendors.

Some of the vendors at the market each week are Pemaquid Seafood, Butterfield Farm, Pasta Heaven, Eaglewood Farm, Smith’s Acres, Weston Gardens, Gazy Brothers Farm, Connecticutly Grown Hoardable Hot Sauce, Sticky-Nuts, Whistle Stop Bakery, The Bites Company, Daffodil Growers, and Nod Hill Soap.
