Around The Grange
Norfield Grange Opens Community Coffee Club

By Samantha Henry, The Daily Weston (4/13/11)

  APRIL 16, 2011 --

Lyn Kimberly says Weston residents need a place to hang out – and she thinks the Norfield Grange can provide the answer.

Tuesday the Grange began testing a community coffee club. The trial run will continue Thursday, April 14, and Kimberly, the Grange’s membership chairwoman, says those attending will be asked to provide what kind of services they would like the coffee club to feature. They could include such things as WiFi, TV, furniture and food.

Around 40 people attended the coffee club on Tuesday. There was a constant flow of people coming and going, Kimberly said. "The input and feedback is extremely positive," she said.

The Grange plans to host the coffee club from 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays until June and will plan to open up again after Labor Day. Refreshments will be free, with an option to make a donation.

Many people in Weston work from home, said Kimberly, and the coffee club could be a "breath of fresh air" and a chance to get out of the house.

"We're trying to increase our membership and involvement in the community," she said.

The Grange has been around since 1896. It moved to Weston when the Merritt Parkway was built in the 1930s. The Grange hall is rented out to different organizations and is host many different events, such as an indoor farmers’ market and an agricultural fair. The Norfield Grange is located at 10 Good Hill Road.
