AUGUST 13, 2010 -- At the Bacon Academy Class of 2010 Senior Award and Scholarship Night, held on June 2, the Colchester Grange awarded two scholarships to two graduating seniors.
Zachary Brown and Cheryl Leith were both awarded the annual prizes, presented to "a graduating senior who is preferably entering an agriculturally-related field or field related to ecology or the environment."
Overseer and past master Pauline "Polly" Leonard was on hand to congratulate the two recipients. Leith is Leonard's granddaughter, as well as daughter of Grange member Diane (Leonard) Leith.
The Grange is a family fraternal organization dedicated to the betterment of the American way of life through community service, education, legislation and fellowship.
Colchester Grange No. 78, organized in 1888, is one of the oldest continuously active Grange in Connecticut. It has more than 40 members.
