Around The Grange
August News from the State Secretary

By Todd Gelineau, CT State Grange Secretary

  August 5, 2017 --

I think a big “sigh of relief” was heard around the State on July 9 when we (the State Executive Committee) revealed the redistricting plan for our Pomona Granges. For our Pomona Secretaries, there are a couple of important things to keep in mind as we move ever closer to October 31. The most important “need” we have is for an updated and accurate membership list (by Grange). To be able to transfer members into your new Pomona Granges, we need to know who the members are and we certainly don’t want to miss anyone. Every member counts! There are two things that don’t have to be done by Secretaries. The 990N EPostcard and the dissolution of your Pomona corporations will be handled by me. In March when we file your final postcards with the IRS, they will be notified of your closure. The dissolution of your corporations is done through the Secretary of the State’s Office in Hartford. This is something that should be done once you have closed and the State Grange, as the successor organization, will have to do that on your behalf. More information on the “winding down” of your Pomona Granges will be coming soon, so stay tuned!

In this issue we have included important information about State Session. I can’t emphasize enough how important it is for you to get your reservations with the hotel done and to register for the Session and purchase your tickets for the Banquet on FRIDAY evening. Yes, the Banquet has been moved to Friday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the hotel (Holiday Inn Norwich). Due to difficulty in getting reservations on time, we have instituted a fee for late reservations, so up to September 15, tickets will cost $30. After September 15, tickets will be $40.

As of this writing, we have received no resolutions at the Central Office. It is early, but please be working on them and keep in mind they have to be in to the office by September for inclusion in the packets. Late resolutions must be accompanied by 125 copies.

Reminders have been sent for items we need returned to the office. Please go through the list and be sure to get your Directory information in along with your Dues Receipt orders.

Whew! This is supposed to be “summertime, when the living is easy”! Maybe we’ll take a breath after State Session….
